In Harari’s seminal work, he claims that Homo sapiens didn’t dominate the world because of size, strength, or even our opposable thumbs; it was our wild capacity for imagination.
And honestly, it’s that same power of imagination that drew most of us into crypto.
The crypto class of 2017 dreamed of a world computer where all is onchain. The 2020 DeFi class was convinced DeFi would devour TradFi’s lunch. The DAO pioneers envisioned egalitarian human coordination at scale. The Autonomous Worlds crowd? Well, they took a detour into the dark forest.
This initial instinct that "crypto is here to change the world" has become a gut feeling many of us share. But let’s face it: figuring out how has been awkward. We can’t quite put our finger on what’s missing, and that gnawing discomfort defines the current status of our industry.
Why? Why is it so hard to imagine a world where crypto truly makes things better?
That’s the question I asked myself when I started MegaETH. But just sitting around thinking about it doesn’t cut it. We've got more than enough armchair theorists in this space. The only way to really push boundaries and do the impossible is to roll up your sleeves and work with the builders.
MegaMafia is that group of 10X builders.
For the last six months, we've been hand-picking builders who have an internal compass guiding them toward crypto’s world domination. We spent a month in Berlin to sketch out ideas, debut some of the mafia projects during ETHCC, and now in MegaZu for another intense month of coliving and cobuilding.
Who’s in the Mafia?
Some left big tech and Web2 behind, aiming to build a game show that brings fun and joy to those unfamiliar with crypto . Others came from the DeFi class of 2020, seeing a chance to build novel financial primitives unavailable on any other chain.
Some hail from high-frequency trading backgrounds, now discovering the market efficiency unlocked by MegaETH’s architecture.
Fresh college graduates are here too, envisioning entirely new crypto native marketplace and game theory. And some are OGs from the early days trying to rebuild decentralized tech stack that got them excited in 2015.
MegaMafia is an extension of the MegaETH core team.
We all believe that crypto-native applications are inherently superior to those of web2 because of the primitives such as P2P network, tokenomics and open-source ethos.
What do they have in common?
They're all building apps that are only possible on MegaETH.
They’re all working on zero to one use cases: next-gen DeFi primitives, Autonomous World engines, and consumer projects that finally provide emotional value to end users.
Mafia helps Mafia. Time and again, I’ve seen this crew collaborate—helping each other with product design, go-to-market strategies, or be each other’s therapists. The camaraderie is real, and that’s what makes building together actually fun.
